N2 - This PhD thesis, written in German, deals with bilingual mathematics teaching, mainly in primary schools. Its purpose is to present different arguments demonstrating that bilingual education does not have any negative consequences on pupils’ mathematical skills, provided that a few basic requirements are fulfilled. It begins with a general outline of bilingual (mathematics) teaching and a comparative study of mathematics teaching in France and Baden-Württemberg. It then presents and analyses different types of bilingual education, referring to current examples in America and Europe. The central part of the work is a comparative analysis of the mathematical performances of similar age primary pupils in France (cours préparatoires) and Germany (Klassen 1) based on a sequence of lessons delivered by the author. In the schools concerned, in both countries, half of the pupils are taught mathematics in the mother tongue and the other half in the foreign language (German or French). The comparison between the mathematical skills developed by these pupils, whether in the mother tongue or in a foreign language, supports the thesis. This piece of writing then focuses on two topics common to the mathematics curricula in both French and German schools and proposes a bilingual treatment of them. It ends with some reflections on the training of future teachers for bilingual education and offers didactic and methodological ideas for the implementation of bilingual mathematics teaching.
